What started as Baan Thai, the original vision of Ning Ariya in 2010, has now blossomed to a new level of culinary excellence in the realm of Thai cuisine. Driven by her insatiable hunger to offer the very best of Thai food to the discerning palates of San Franciscans, she traveled back to Thailand in late 2017 to train with Chef Chumpol Jangprai, one of the top chefs in the country, to inspire a new vision for her restaurant. Thus Bussaba was born: it means "flower", and its blossoming is a rebirth of classical Thai recipes handcrafted from scratch with an obsessive attention to detail and quality in the ingredients.
The reinvigorated menu is meant to demonstrate the full range of flavors that comprise the cornucopia of Thai cuisine. Our dishes invoke the essential spirit of several regions and styles of Thailand, from the hearty and herbal North to the colorful heat and seafood of the South, and from modern streets of Bangkok to traditional foods for the kings. We emphasize sauces and curries handmade with locally-sourced herbs and produce, and without the slightest hint of preservatives. For regular patrons of the original Baan Thai, we have also retained some of our original crowd favorites, and continue to focus on the often-overlooked importance of pairing high quality and value wines with the full range of tastes inherent to Thai cuisine.
